2023 WBG Youth Summit Pitch Competition: The importance of youth solutions to create global impact
The World Bank Group Youth Summit returns for its 10th edition and aims to engage young people on the most pressing issues facing their generation, bringing together thousands of participants from around the world. The theme of the 2023 summit, From the Ground Up: Local Solutions to Drive Global Impact, highlights development solutions that are created locally, scaled regionally and scaled globally. This theme also reflects the World Bank Group’s commitment to supporting local ownership, knowledge, and solutions as key to addressing global development challenges.
2023 World Bank Group Youth Summit Competition (WBG Youth Summit Pitch Competition) As part of the launch of the 2023 Pitch Competition – a flagship element of the Youth Summit – this live event will showcase how young people can tackle some of the world’s most pressing challenges through local and grassroots solutions with the potential to have a global impact. The discussions will focus on three development pillars around which the Pitch competition is organized:
- Fragility, conflict, and violence-affected locations.
- Climate change, including energy security and transition.
- Financial security through employment and skill development.
And will address how to leverage local knowledge and leadership among youth on these topics.
During this session, the panelists will provide details on who can participate, how to enter the competition and why to participate in the Youth Summit Competition.
The 2023 World Bank Group Youth Summit will be held both virtually and in person, in Washington DC, on May 25-26th, 2023. More details will be made available soon.
WHY IS IT RELEVANT?
The World Bank Group’s crisis response has helped countries save lives and livelihoods threatened by COVID-19 and is beginning to build the foundations for a sustainable and resilient recovery in a world transformed by the pandemic. By exploring the integration aspect of social, environmental and economic solutions to development, this year’s Youth Summit aligns with the innovative approach to development defined by the Green, Resilient and Inclusive Development (GRID) framework, while highlighting the empowerment of youth to lead development and equitable development.
The GRID framework was introduced at the 2021 IMF-WBG Spring Meetings to promote the connection between people, the economy and the planet and “to enhance economic growth that is consistent with environmental goals and inclusion”.
