Established in 2003 with the goal of addressing the wide gender gap in girl’s enrollment in school, especially in the northern part of the country, Girl Child Concerns has continuously sought ways of improving the lives of girls and women in Nigeria. With offices in Abuja, Kaduna and Maiduguri its numerous interventions have not only provided access to education for young girls, but also provided them awareness on their reproductive lives, rights, entitlements and responsibility. To achieve this, the organisation targets the legislature, religious and traditional leaders as well as communities and institutions. Girl Child Concerns provides holistic interventions that meet the needs of vulnerable adolescent girls especially those from poor rural areas, disadvantaged and undeserved groups like married adolescent and girls in humanitarian settings. Our specific interventions include Adolescents Reproductive Health & Rights, Female Students Scholarships for vulnerable girls, Advocacy and community mobilization and sensitization on civil rights and responsibilities as well as gender equity. The organization has empowered and promoted girl child education and providing educational support to young people through its Female Students Scholarships Scheme (FSSS), Safe Spaces and life skills development. Through a comprehensive approach, the process of the scholarship scheme is built in such a way that the girl-child is not only offered formal education but also armed with general life skills, sexuality education and in the process age of marriage is delayed. (Over 200 girls have graduated from secondary school under the scholarship scheme and we have almost 300 presently placed in various girls boarding schools in four states across the North)

GCC Girls’ Academy is seeking a highly motivated and experienced librarian to oversee it library and learning resources. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the library resources, organizing library activities, developing a library catalogue, and ensuring the library is a safe and engaging space for all students. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the school library and ensuring that students have access to the information resources they need to succeed in their studies. The librarian will work closely with teaching staff and students to promote reading, literacy, and research skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and maintain a library collection that supports the curriculum and learning needs of students.
  • Catalogue and classify library materials using appropriate systems for easy access.
  • Assist students and staff with reference and research needs.
  • Promote reading and literacy through activities such as book clubs, reading groups, and author visits.
  • Develop and implement library policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Manage the library budget and ensure that resources are allocated effectively.
  • Provide instruction to students and staff on how to use the library and its resources.
  • Stay up-to-date with current trends and best practices in library science and technology.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to integrate library resources and services into the curriculum.
  • Monitor and evaluate library usage and report on outcomes to school management.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming library environment.
